The Razer Phone 2 retains its predecessor’s same aluminum frame, glass front cover and box / rectangular brick construction. This time, however, the Razer Phone 2 looks more visually attractive and has unique design features designed to be used as a first-sight gaming phone. The back is now made of glass for wireless charging of the Razer Phone 2. To add, the Razer Chroma logo on the back is now illuminated by RGB and supports breathing profiles, spectrum and static colour. The three – headed snake logo on the rear logo also doubles as a notification light and can also be customized to remain on when the screen is active at all times or only.
As a icing on the cake, the Razer Phone 2 now comes with IP67 certification that makes it water and dust resistant, just like the Black Shark 2 from Xiaomi. The top and bottom belts of the device are fitted with double front stereo speakers for high, crisp and balanced sound production.
The Razer Phone 2 sports the same screen size with the same 16:9 aspect ratio as its predecessor, but Razer has increased the luminosity from 380 nits to 580 nits for improved outdoor visibility. The 5.7-inch LCD display has a resolution of 2,560x 1,440 pixels and is fitted with Gorilla Glass 5 from Corning. The 120Hz display refresh rate also allows smoother play and more fluid use when basic operations are carried out on the device.
Processor and Storage
The Razer Phone 2 system is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system on the first Razer Phone. The clock speed for faster gaming and processing was increased to a maximum of 2.8 GHz. The graphics handling is the Adreno 630 GPU and the Oreo v8.1 Android is the out – of-the-box operating system. However, Razer says that the flagship phone can be upgraded to Android 9 Pie latest.
The Razer Phone 2 comes with 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage in a single variant. However, there is a color variant ” Rugged Satin ” with 128 GB of internal storage. However, the built-in storage can be supplied up to 512 GB with a dedicated micro SD card slot.
In order to handle heat dissipation and thermal throttle on this device, Razer uses a steam chamber cooling system to reduce the temperature of the phone to a mild level during gaming and other demanding applications.
On the back of this device, a dual camera consisting of two 12-megapixel sensors with the same aperture and pixel size as its predecessor, Razer, used Sony lenses with IMX sensors on the Razer gaming phone this time and the primary sensor was designed to support optical image stabilization while the secondary lens remains a 2x optical zoom.
Basically, it’s nearly the same camera, but with an improved interface and users should now have slightly better images and 4 K recording capabilities. The front camera is an 8 megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 1080P video recording capability.
The battery is impressive: 4,000mAh battery with wireless charging and Quick Charge 4.0 support, charging the battery to approximately 50% in half an hour. The device also has a number of options to reduce the consumption of batteries so that users can make the most of their devices. I can switch for example, refresh rate off for more battery power. And as already mentioned, the RGB illumination of the 3-snaked Razer logo can also be switched off to extract more juice from the battery.
Razer Phone 2 is available in color options for Mirror Black and Rugged Satin. The base Mirror Black variant costs $ 799, while the Rugged Satin Razer Phone 2 costs $ 100 more than the base model.
