Google Maps Adds A Lime Dimension To Find You A Motorbike Or A Bike

The latest update shows wheels nearby

Google Maps is swiftly becoming the default navigation tool in the modern world and is constantly being refined to guide you to your destination. The latest update adds a new transport mode to the app. Google Maps can now show you the location of nearby Lime electric bicycles or scooters in 13 cities (listed below)–a company that can rent either of these vehicles for a nominal fee.

If you are fortunate enough to live in these towns, you will see the option soon in your app:

  • Auckland (NZ)
  • Austin
  • Baltimore
  • Brisbane (AU)
  • Dallas
  • Indianapolis
  • Los Angeles
  • San Diego
  • Oakland
  • San Antonio
  • San Jose
  • Scottsdale
  • Seattle

The option to find a nearby Lime bike or scooter is much the same as Uber, appearing under your list of public transport options as an alternative option. It will also show how far the vehicle itself is, how long the journey will take, the estimated cost of the journey, the estimated distance coverage on the battery of the vehicle and the number of other Lime vehicles in the vicinity.

It is no surprise that Uber and Lime have received similar treatment with the navigation app, considering that Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has invested heavily in both ride-sharing services. There is no word about whether other cities with Lime services–such as Sydney, Australia–will be compatible with Google Maps, but they prepare us to bet that it will land in those regions in the coming months if the trial proves to be effective.
